Christmas~ giving or receiving?

by Julie December 9, 2013

DSCN2324 This time of year can be such a joy, but it can also be extremely stressful. There seems to be so many self-imposed duties, from baking for the office to making sure everyone on the list is accounted for and packages mailed out.

The thing I want to mention is about receiving. Most of Christmas is about giving, yet without the grace of receiving, there is no one to give to. It is the other side of the coin. There is no difference. To receive is the same as to give, it is simply allowing someone the dignity and joy of giving. So to receive graciously is as much a part of Christmas as giving.

When someone gives you a gift and you have nothing for them, receiving graciously and warm-heartedly is the gift you give in return. Allow them to honor you, if that is what they want to do. Allow them to share something they made or chose for you. When you receive it, you are acknowledging their time, thoughts and value. You are connecting. No need to let your mind go to what gift you can quickly get them in return, take a moment and genuinely accept. Whole-heartedly be grateful and there is the sparkle of Christmas~ as easy as that.

Have a wonderful holiday!
